
Single parents make up 10% of the families in the U.S. and yet the travel industry is just beginning to recognize that we too like to take fun family vacations with our children. One big challenge is that single parents have single incomes, so frugal travel is essential. But that's not the only consideration. With bank non-sufficient funds (NSF) charges now creeping up to nearly $40.00 you can't afford to bounce a check. Banks have long since discovered that they can make a ton of money by honoring your check and then charging you a hefty NSF fee. The easiest thing to do is to not bounce a check of course, but there are places to keep your money that have cheaper NSF fees, namely credit unions.

Banks are under no obligation to process checks in numeric order. Let's say that you have enough money in your account to cover two of three checks and fully expect the last one to bounce. If all three checks show up on the same day at the bank, you could get bounced on all three.
